Read Evermore: The Immortals Book 1 Now or Eventually?
While I don’t feel a deep urgency about timing, Evermore is definitely a Read Now if you plan to dive into The Immortals series. It has a timeless quality, but the series truly gets better with each subsequent book — the story becomes more compelling, you get to know and like the characters better, and the series takes you on a journey alongside the main character, Ever Bloom.
From the Jacket of Evermore: The Immortals Book 1
Don’t miss Evermore, the first book in Alyson Noël’s #1 New York Times bestselling The Immortals series. Enter an enchanting new world where true love never dies. . .
After a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever Bloom can see people’s auras, hear their thoughts, and know someone’s entire life story by touching them. Going out of her way to avoid human contact and suppress her abilities, she has been branded a freak at her new high school―but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste.
Damen is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy. He’s the only one who can silence the noise and random energy in her head―wielding a magic so intense, it’s as though he can peer straight into her soul. As Ever is drawn deeper into his enticing world of secrets and mystery, she’s left with more questions than answers. And she has no idea just who he really is―or what he is. The only thing she knows to be true is that she’s falling deeply and helplessly in love with him.
Always Eventually Review
Fans of the YA genre are really going to enjoy Evermore. When I first read this book in my late twenties, I found it gripping. Revisiting it years later, I didn’t enjoy it as much, but I still appreciate its appeal. The story is compelling, and Ever’s character is relatable — her reaction to the trauma she experiences and the powers she develops feels authentic, making her journey resonate.
There’s an understandable sadness and isolation that Ever goes through, and you’ll appreciate watching her character evolve and reclaim her sense of self. The book is very dialogue-driven, so if you enjoy a story with lots of conversation, you’ll find it engaging. It moves quickly, with no unnecessary fluff.
Ever and Damen have a somewhat co-dependent relationship, but I don’t think that’s a reason to avoid the book. It’s part of Ever’s journey to develop some unhealthy coping habits. What stands out in Evermore is its emotional depth. While many YA books focus on romance and action, this one really zeros in on Ever’s internal struggle, making it a richer read for those who enjoy character-driven stories.
If you’re a fan of character-driven YA stories with a touch of fantasy, Evermore will appeal to you. Fans of series like Twilight or The Vampire Diaries will also enjoy the mystical romance and emotional stakes at play.

Love stories with heart and magic? Check out my novel, Forgotten Cove, the first book in the Hailing Cove series by T.G. Elsher.
Elle Wildes was a normal teenage girl. Or at least she thought she was until her mother sent her to her grandma’s house in Hailing Cove. Anticipating a boring summer, Elle’s world is turned upside down when she realizes the sleepy coastal town holds its own mysteries and those from her past as well.
When Elle’s forgotten memories come back to haunt her, she discovers the secrets of her family’s lineage and the responsibilities that come with it. But with two dreamy guys vying for her attention, she is taken on a roller coaster ride of heartache and betrayal as she discovers her identity in an unknown magical town.
Reader Praise
What can I say about T.G. Elsher’s debut novel, Forgotten Cove? Elsher is a gifted storyteller who immerses readers in the enchanting world of Hailing Cove, where witchcraft and magic blend seamlessly with a cast of loveable, deeply human characters. Elle Wildes, the relatable protagonist, navigates her powers, friendships, and heartbreak with authenticity that pulls at your heartstrings. The book masterfully combines mystery, romance, and coming-of-age themes, keeping me hooked from the first page to the last. The emotional climax, written with breathtaking beauty, moved me to tears. T.G. Elsher may well be this generation’s L.J. Smith, creating stories that are both magical and profoundly moving. I truly couldn’t get enough!
