Creating an Effortless beauty routine (2023 trends)

Less is more in 2023 as the overly made-up look of bygone days are over, and women are instead opting for a polished, yet natural aesthetic.

But how can you achieve that polished and glowing look without spending hours in front of the mirror? Good news: you’re in luck! There are a few simple things you can do to create an effortless beauty routine that you’ll actually stick to.

In this post, I’ll share some tips on how to choose the right products for your skin type and concerns, how to make your beauty routine fit into your busy lifestyle (in other words, super fast and easy!), and how to make it enjoyable.

1. Create a Strong Foundation for your skin type with multitasking products that provide natural coverage.

In the past few years, there have been so many innovations in the realm of skin care. I won’t go into it too deeply because this topic has been fully covered by experts like Hyram (love him!) and Dr. Dre, but the current era in skincare and beauty is all about being gentle with your skin. And that trend isn’t going anywhere because it works!

That said, the first step in creating an effortless beauty routine is to start with a strong base and prep your skin for the next steps. So you’ll want to choose a skin cleanser, moisturizer, and optional treatment that works for your skin type.

If you have oily skin, you’ll want to use products that are oil-free and non-comedogenic (but still gentle!) The days of stripping away the oils and leaving your skin raw and are over. Plus the irritation caused by harsh cleansers and treatments, typically leads to increased oil production and possibly breakouts. There are also a number of treatments that are formulated with oily or acne prone-skin in mind. Generally products with niacinamide will keep oil at bay, while helping to regenerate the skin barrier.

If you have dry or sensitive skin, you’ll need to use products that are moisturizing and hydrating, think cream cleansers and rich moisturizers. Fragrance free formulations are also great options for those with dry or sensitive skin. Switching to fragrance free products was a game changer for my dry and acne-prone skin.

With that in mind, here are a few of my recommendations that work beautifully on most skin types. These products are affordable and will help you achieve a flawless finish.

Pacifica Glow Baby Vitamin C Serum (Suitable for most skin types)

Vitamin C is a crucial step in your beauty routine. It’s a brightening antioxidant, so it helps to protect your skin from sun damage and create a brighter, more even tone.

It’s lightly fragranced, which initially concerned me, but it didn’t at all bother my sensitive skin. Instead, it left my skin glowing and smooth! It contains glycolic acid, so it gently exfoliates and creates a clean base for your sunscreen.

Colorescience Total Protection Face Shield SPF 50 (Great for Dry, Normal, and combination Skin)

I go through at least two bottles of this every winter; it’s liquid gold, going on smooth and giving you that glazed doughnut look that everyone is craving right now.

It’s a mineral tinted sunscreen, so it provides all the coverage you need. Plus it’s loaded with antioxidants so it does double duty, protecting you from the sun’s harmful rays in multiple ways!

Supergoop! Mineral Mattescreen (SPF 40) (Perfect for normal to Oily skin)

In the summer, when the weather warms and my skin is less dry, I switch to Supergoop. It’s a whipped formula that blends into your skin and provides light coverage. The matte formula gives you that polished, put-together look even during the hot, humid days of summer.

Of course, you can feel free to add concealer, foundation, or powder, if you prefer more coverage. Trust me, as someone who has battled with problem skin my whole life, I understand the importance of feeling confident in your skin. But the above steps may be all you need for most days!

2. Make your beauty routine fit into your busy lifestyle with effective products that do the heavy lifting.

Once you’ve created a natural finish, your skin is ready for a light make up application that takes mere minutes. Again, it’s 2023 (almost 2024) and heavy makeup is so passe. Instead opt for a natural lip, eye, and cheek to add a pop of color to your skin and give you that effortlessly put-together look. Here’s what I recommend for a flawless finish:

Maybelline Lash Sensational Washable Mascara

I’m literally obsessed with this mascara. It adds so much length and volume that I don’t need anything else on my eyes. It makes my eyes pop, and I get so many compliments with just two coats. I hope you’ll love it as much as me!

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Stick Blush – Peachy Keen

Anastasia products are amazing. The contain so much pigment in beautiful colors. This particular formula is buildable, so it will give you a natural look, and you can use it to add color to other parts of your face, like your eyes and lips. What’s more, it’s a cream blush, which means it will work well on top of your sunscreen and won’t create an overly-powdered.

Clinique Almost Lipstick – Black Honey

The internet raves about this (almost) lipstick, and for good reason. It’s somewhere between a lipstick and gloss, which, again, will help you achieve that on trend naturally beautiful look. The color looks a little bit different on everyone, but it’s universally flattering.

Maybelline New York Cheek Heat Gel-Cream Blush

This cream blush gives you a natural-looking glow and is a fantastic addition to your effortless beauty routine. It easily blends and feels hydrating on the skin.

If you have more time, you can add in other steps, such as eyeliner or concealer. But what’s most important is protecting your skin from the sun and finding a routine you can stick to, even on busy days.

3. Make it fun.

Don’t think of your beauty routine as a chore. Instead, make it something you enjoy by thinking of it as self-care. Almost everyone of these products does double duty as a skincare product. For example, both of the sunscreens contain antioxidants to protect your skin from free radicals, so their mineral tints aren’t just creating a more even skin tone.

And the cream blush and almost lipstick are super hydrating. The mascara, on the other hand, is just mascara. But it’s amazing!
